be fatal.
- Don't lean over or stick your head into a septic tank. You could be overcome by gases and fall into the
tank.
- Methane Gas is explosive, so do not light any flames
or produce any sparks near an open septic tank.
- Do not leave an uncovered septic tank unattended. An
animal, child or adult could fall in.
- Ensure area around septic tank is
stable and will not shift or give way, potentially causing you to fall
into the septic tank.
- Use extreme caution when removing a septic tank cover. It will
be quite heavy, and you could slip or lose your balance and fall into the
septic tank. It is highly recommended to have someone help you with
this.
- Site must be ventilated: Decomposing wastes in the septic tank
produce toxic or otherwise dangerous gases (such as methane which is both
explosive and an asphyxiant) which can kill a person in a matter of
minutes in an unventilated area. When working with an open tank, make sure
the area is well ventilated.
- Use water-proof gloves when using the Septic Checker, such as the pair which are included.
Properly dispose of the gloves after they have been used, and wash your hands with soap
and warm water thoroughly.
